3D imaging solutions to support pre-clinical drug discovery
To aid the discovery and development of new therapies at AstraZeneca (Cambridge, UK), Professor Richard Goodwin, Head of imaging and AI, Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences, and his team use advanced imaging to enhance their understanding of patients, diseases and the efficacy and safety of newly developed drugs. By combining established histopathological tissue analysis with novel tissue analysis technologies, the team at AstraZeneca achieve a holistic view of the tissue microenvironment, mapping morphological and metabolic interactions.
Dr. Luigi Prisco will give a general introduction to Miltenyi Biotec’s (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) complete workflow solution for large-scale 3D fluorescence microscopy, with a particular focus on oncology applications. This integrated workflow includes a fully automated light sheet microscope, the UltraMicroscope Blaze™, validated 3D-immunofluorescence antibodies, and an easy-to-use, non-toxic tissue clearing kit. Dr. Prisco will highlight the key benefits of this well-orchestrated system for high-resolution 3D imaging of large or multiple samples.
What will you learn?
- How to investigate drug biodistribution and efficiency in reaching the target
- Advantages of 3D approaches over typical 2D workflows to measure drug distribution and penetration into the tissue
Who may this interest?
- CRO in the field of pre-clinical drug discovery
- Pharmaceutical and Biopharma industries with early target and drug discovery programs
Speakers
Dr. Richard Goodwin
Head of Integrated Imaging Sciences, Senior Director CPSS, AstraZeneca (Cambridge, UK) & Honorary Professor, University of Glasgow at AstraZeneca
Dr. Goodwin leads a global team of passionate imaging scientists that deliver expertise across AstraZeneca with cutting-edge multidimensional imaging modalities, deriving project insight and impact by connecting safety and efficacy endpoints using advanced tissue histology, molecular imaging, in vivo PET, MRI and much more. All of these are connected by an integrated image analysis, digitization and AI.
He is passionate about collaboration and embedding new technologies and data analysis into the drug discovery process, with over 75 publications while at AstraZeneca on the development and deployment of new technology in support of the portfolio. Richard is also an Honorary Professor at University of Glasgow.
