Bioanalysis Rising Star Award: an interview with the 2023 winner
In this interview, Shivangi discusses where her inspiration came from when becoming a bioanalytical scientist and after winning the award, she describes the overwhelming support from the international bioanalytical community. For those thinking about nominating themselves or a colleague for the 2024 award, Shivangi encourages new scientists to be their best advocates and to not be afraid to put themselves out there!
The BRSA is an annual award that recognizes and promotes the work of talented early-career scientists, offering researchers a springboard to help establish themselves in the exciting world of bioanalysis. This year’s winner, Shivangi Awasthi, Associate Principal Scientist at Merck & Co., Inc. was nominated by Dina Goykhman (Merck & Co., Inc.) who commented:
“She exemplifies curiosity, passion and perseverance in advancing scientific understanding and pursuing innovative solutions to complex questions. As an exceptional scientist in their early-career, Shivangi has well positioned herself as a rising star to provide valuable BA insights in the development of increasingly diverse and complex drug modalities.”
As the winner of the BRSA, Shivangi will present her work at the 16th European Bioanalysis Forum (EBF) Open Symposium, held in Barcelona (Spain) on 15−17 November 2023. She also receives a 1-year subscription to Bioanalysis and USD $1000, courtesy of award sponsors Waters Corporation (MA, USA), a leading provider of analytical instruments and software in liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and thermal analysis.
On receiving the award, Shivangi commented:

Shivangi won the public vote after four finalists were shortlisted by the judges. The other finalists were Emily Werth (Boehringer Ingelheim; NY, USA), Xiaoyu Wang (Nanjing Forestry University; Jiangsu, China) and Zijuan Lai (Genentech Inc.; CA, USA).
