Exclusive distribution agreement for lipidomics software

Lipid Search software developed by Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. is to be exclusively distributed by Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. recently signed an agreement with software developer, Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. (MKI) to exclusively market and distribute MKI’s Lipid Search software. The software, developed by Ryo Taguchi based at the University of Tokyo and MKI, can be used for interpretation of lipidomic research data and is compatible with Thermo Scientific’s high-resolution accurate-mass Orbitrap, hybrid Orbitrap and triple-quadrupole mass spectrometers.

Lipid Search is able to process data from infusion MS/MS and LC–MS/MS, using MS2 and/or MS3, it accommodates several acquisition modes, such as precursor ion scanning, neutral loss scanning and product ion scanning. It can identify lipids from a broad range of mass spectrometers from major manufacturers using a database of more than one million species.

Takeshi Bamba, associate professor, Department of Biotechnology at Osaka University explained, ”Analysis of lipidomic data requires an enormous amount of energy and time. With Lipid Search, we can successfully automate that process, to dramatically enhance performance By simultaneously analyzing more than one million MS data, we can uncover many previously unreported lipids.”
