Thermo Fisher Scientific (MA, USA) and Agilent Technologies (CA, USA) have announced the renewal of their commitment to the industry-wide Instrument Control Exchange Program which encourages compatibility among key vendors’ instrumentation and chromatography data systems (CDS) to enhance the efficiency of user workflows.

Through the participation of key vendors, the Instrument Control Exchange Program aims to give organizations across the life sciences and applied industries the ability to select the hardware and software solutions that most appropriately meet their application needs.

As a result of improved compatibility with Agilent Technologies’ GC and HPLC instrumentation, the latest iteration of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Chromeleon CDS software will allow users to streamline quality control workflows. It has also been announced that for the first time, users will be able to control Thermo Fisher Scientific’s GC, HPLC and selected ion chromatography instruments using Agilent Technologies’ OpenLab CDS.

John Sadler (Vice President and General Manager, Software and Informatics, Agilent Technologies) explained: “Agilent’s multivendor control approach to laboratory informatics allows our customers to select the best hardware and software for their needs. That is why we invest in integrating third-party analytical instruments into our OpenLab software suite, in collaboration with other analytical instrument manufacturers. Our goal is to provide simple and complete support for our mutual customers.”

Matt Hazelwood (Senior Director, Global Enterprise CDS, Thermo Fisher Scientific) added: “The lack of interoperability between different vendors’ instruments and software has traditionally presented a barrier to laboratories adopting the solutions that best meet the unique needs of their workflows. The renewal of our commitment with Agilent for mutual compatibility and third-party control of instruments allows customers to have continued access to our market leading Chromeleon CDS software platform and deploy the analytical solutions they need without compromising the flexibility or efficiency of their workflows.”
