Cleanroom-compatible CO2 incubators for cell therapy with shelving systems for large vessels

Written by ThermoFisher Scientific

The Thermo Scientific Vios Cleanroom CO2 Incubator CTS Series is the first of its kind: a cleanroom-compatible CO2 incubator that is third party-certified and suitable for use in ISO Class 5 and GMP Grade A/B environments.

With its Thermo Scientific THRIVE Active Airflow Technology, the Vios CR CO2 incubator provides fast recovery and outstanding uniformity for reproducible and quality cell growth results. Proven contamination control is provided by in-chamber HEPA filtration with ISO Class 5 cleanroom conditions, a covered and protected water reservoir, electropolished interior and Thermo Scientific Steri-Run 180° C Sterilization. The cleanroom (CR) series features a unique active particle control system that meets the demanding requirements for cell and gene therapy manufacturing. More CR model benefits include a sealed IP54 rated exterior stainless-steel casing, comprehensive documentation package to facilitate on-site qualification and related cleanroom-compatible accessories.

To maximize and optimize the incubator space for large vessel types, special shelving systems are available as accessories for the 255 L Heracell VIOS and Heracell Vios CR models.

These new designs create improved reinforced shelves and specific designs optimized for popular large vessel types which can tremendously increase the capacity.

As an example, with the standard shelving system, the Heracell Vios 250i CR CO2 Incubator holds four G-Rex® 500M-CS bioreactors. Utilizing the new optimized shelving system, the capacity is increased to ten G-Rex® 500M-CS bioreactors, a 150% increase. Since most CO2 incubators in production environments are stacked, this means a production capacity for 20 autologous treatments per cleanroom incubator footprint (i.e. 25.1 in x 34.6 in).

Additional shelving solutions for Thermo Scientific Nunc Cell Factory Systems (four and ten layers) are available soon. They improve weight capacity, provide easy access to each individual vessel and offer better clearance for air filters.
