Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023 with Future Science Group
Bioanalysis Zone partnered up with the Future Science Group (FSG) digital hubs – BioTechniques, RegMedNet, Oncology Central and Neuro Central – to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023. This year, IWD focused on the theme #EmbraceEquity, looking to create global conversations to help acknowledge and understand the value in equity.
To kickstart the conversation on International Women’s Day itself, we hosted an interactive Twitter thread called ‘What’s in my lab?’, to encourage women in STEM to discuss their new and interesting tech, as well as the projects they are currently working on. Check out the full thread below:
? What’s in your lab?
Question 2: What’s one item you can’t live (or do your research) without?#IWDTwitterDiscussion2023 #WIYL #WomenInSTEM #WomenInScience pic.twitter.com/AHfcpJzt0Y

Smruthi Karthikeyan: Portable sequencers!
Manjula Mummadisetti: I want to say scientific thinking and answering a scientific question logically and methodically, however if I were to pick an item, it would be my Mass spec.
Burcu Uner: My little collectible toys and pics of my family. These little things sometimes make me feel so grateful and my mood can change out of the blue.
To recognize the significant contributions made by women across the scientific community, we collated a series of interviews centering on ‘advice to my younger self’. The full collection of interviews can be found here. The questions were career-focused, looking at the paths that led our interviewees to where they are today, who or what inspired them, the careers they chose and the advice they would give to their younger selves. They provided insightful advice on persistence, self-knowledge, confidence, criticism and opportunities, all of which came from their own experiences.
The interviews have also been summarized into this helpful infographic.
