Biomarkers identified for screening and potentially treating patients with COVID-19

Researchers from the Lawson Health Research Institute, Western University (both ON, Canada) and the University of Alberta (AB, Canada) have identified three metabolites in the blood that appear to be affected by COVID-19, which could be measured in an inexpensive blood screening test. These three biomarkers, the team claims, could be used to quickly screen for COVID-19 as well as predict which patients are likely to be affected the most and become most critically ill.
