ASMS 2023: SCIEX introduces the Intabio ZT system

Written by Jack Lodge

At this year’s American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), SCIEX (MA, USA), a manufacturer of mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation and international leader of life science analytical technologies, launched the new Intabio ZT system.

This system is the first fully integrated microfluidic chip-based platform, which merges imaged capillary isoelectric focusing (icIEF) separation with UV detection. Combined with the use of MS identification on the ZenoTOF 7600 system, it removes any guesswork during the initial stages of drug development and expedites the process of selecting potential drug candidates. This icIEF-UV/MS workflow facilitates the separation, quantitation and detection of biopharmaceutical charge variants and their respective proteoforms.

Dom Gostick, Vice President of Product Management at SCIEX, explains:

“We hear from customers the consistent need to identify developable molecules earlier in the process. To do so, we need multiple pieces of critical data up front. The Intabio ZT system provides mass information on charge variants that has the power to change protein therapeutic development, by providing the comprehensive data needed to make quick and confident decisions on the developability of potential therapies.”

The new Intabio ZT system can obtain data on charge isoforms for biopharmaceuticals in minutes, currently obtaining the same information that previously took several weeks. This proficiency specifically addresses a significant roadblock in the characterization of biopharmaceuticals, where an absence of connectivity between icIEF and MS assays can hinder the classification of unidentified peaks early in the drug development process. The Intabio ZT system also employs the advanced data processing capability within SCIEX’s

Biologics Explorer software, is an advanced platform for the widespread and deep characterization of biologics.
